Food Globally

I always ‘prided’ myself on liking simple food – rice and beans and things I felt were more globally sustainable than my ‘own’ Western food.

I’m in Kenya and my stomach has been upset most of the time.

And I’ve found I haven’t been able to eat Kenya food (or maybe just haven’t enjoyed it) and have been desiring Western food.

I am ashamed of myself, and reminded of how judgemental I have been of others. It’s really never good to be judgemental.

Glut of clothing

Done with your clothes in North America? What do you do with them? When we give them to charity, we feel good about not trashing them. This then leaves us free to buy new (other) clothes without guilt.

What happens to our clothes after we put them in the drop box?

Most of them arrive in Africa, in large bundles, which are then resold to vendors who sell them to Africans. This is why Africans seem to always wear ‘our’ clothes. Not by choice, but because our cast offs are now cheaper than traditional local made clothes.

Which has put fabric makers and seamstresses out of business in Africa.

Makes you feel good, right?
