Transit Users
Who rides public transportation in Hamilton or Winnipeg? (Two medium sized cities in Canada) Those who cannot afford a car mostly: kids, poorer people, elderly. In Toronto or Amsterdam or other larger cities, people from all walks of life, including rich business people, use public transportation. There is a noticeable difference when riding in these different cities. In the larger ones, it seems more normal for anyone to take transit.
In Hamilton, a fare hike hurts more because the people who use the buses can least afford to pay more. (I’ve also noticed there aren’t many ads on the inside of buses in Hamilton – but many buses are painted with ads on the outside. The people who ride the bus are not the ones advertisers are targeting.)
Just some observations.
